Taffy, the sequel. OK, so in last week’s post I mentioned that taffy (or toffee) has been around awhile. Saltwater taffy likely originated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the 1880s and became so profitable that there was a U.S. Supreme Court case about it.
There’s a colorfuland perhaps truestory behind saltwater taffy. As a writer of fiction, I appreciate a good yarn, so here goes:
David Bradley sold taffyjust the regular kind popular in country fairs then. His taffy shop was on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, steps from the beach.
